•
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
•
To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  
•
Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
•
For release the fuel system pressure before remove the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
1.
Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
2.
Remove the plastic engine cover.
3.
Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "Air Cleaner")
4.
Disconnect the battery positive terminal and then remove the battery.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")
5.
Remove the battery tray.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")
6.
Remove the under cover.
7.
Loosen the drain plug and drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to speed draining.
(Refer to Cooling System - "Coolant")
8.
Remove the radiator upper hose and lower hose.
(Refer to Cooling System - "Radiator")
9.
Recover the refrigerant and then remove the high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe.
(Refer to Heateng, Ventilation, Air conditioning - "Compressor".)
10.
Disconnect the ECM connectors (A), front wiring harness (B), ground cable (C) and battery (+) cable (D).

11.
Remove the control wiring harness protector (A), front wiring connector (B) and battery (+) wiring harness (C) after loosening the bolts and nuts.

12.
Remove the transaxle wire harness connectors and control cable from the transaxle.
13.
Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and PCSV (Purge control solenoid valve) hose (B).

14.
Disconnect the heater hoses (A) and brake vacuum hose(B).

15.
Disconnect the power steering oil return hose for drain the oil, and then remove the hose that connecting between the power steering oil pump assembly and the reservoir tank.(HPS type only)
(Refer to Steering System - "Power Steering")
16.
Remove the front muffler.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "Muffler")
17.
Remove the center muffler and the propeller shaft (4WD only).
(Refer to Drive Shaft and Axle - "Propeller Shaft")
18.
Remove the roll road bracket(A).

Tightening torque
Bolt (C) :
107.9 ~ 127.5 N.m (11.0 ~ 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 ~ 94.0 lb-ft)
Bolt (B) :
49.0 ~ 63.7 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 47.0 lb-ft)

19.
Remove the roll road support bracket(A).

Tightening torque:
49.0 ~ 68.6 N.m (5.0 ~ 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 50.6 lb-ft)

20.
Support the sub frame with a jack, and then remove the sub frame assembly.
(Refer to Suspension System - "Sub Frame" )
21.
Disconnect the ground cable(A), and then remove the engine mounting bracket (B).

Tightening torque :
88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

22.
Disconnect the transaxle ground cable(A).

Tightening torque :
10.8 ~ 13.7 N.m (1.1 ~ 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 ~ 10.1 lb-ft)

23.
Remove the service cover(A).

24.
Remove the transaxle mounting bracket through bolt(A).

Tightening torque :
88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

25.
Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by lifting vehicle.

  
When remove the engine and transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
